Built in the early 1800s, the property was formerly a family home and working farm. Today, the renovated property at The Farmhouse offers a beautiful and convenient location to host your wedding in Wilmington, Delaware. Their all inclusive package takes the stress out of planning by providing everything you need including open bar, floral centerpieces, cake and hotel accommodations with complimentary shuttle service.
To help couples in the wake of Covid-19, The Farmhouse has begun offering a 90 minute intimate ceremony package for up to 55 guests. This package includes outdoor ceremony in front of their newly built timber frame pergola, cake cutting, champagne toast and use of The Farmhouse grounds for portraits.

The Farmhouse offers so many great spots for wedding portraits that it is very easy to get a number of different looks in a short amount of time. The house offers a wide wrap-around porch in the front, which is a great choice for portraits of the bride and groom or a first look. An old wagon sits in the front yard and the house itself makes the prefect backdrop for wedding portraits or bridal party photos. A group of crepe myrtle trees to the side of The Farmhouse is a favorite spot of ours for larger groups.
Around back there are some spectacular weeping willows which are fun to work into portraits and to get creative with as well as a number of flowering trees which look amazing in the spring.
The line of tall arborvitae trees that separate the back deck from the yard are a perfect backdrop for large groups and family photos although the beautiful new pergola works well for this too.
At night the gazebo and front of the house are lit up and look fantastic, so be sure to ask your photographer to step outside for a few nighttime portraits!
getting ready
The bridal suite upstairs is cozy and there is enough window light to shoot getting ready without flash. The full length mirror and vanity make for some intimate shots of the bride as she puts on finishing touches.
Right down the hall is another room with dark wood paneling, hooks on the wall for dresses and full size mirror which we love for getting shots of the dress. It’s also a good overflow spot if you have a large bridal party.
Groomsmen have their own suite downstairs with a full sized table and a television. Although window light is a bit limited in this area, natural light photos are still possible for the groom or small groups. Bounced flash is also a good option here.
ceremony
Outdoor uncovered ceremonies are held in the back yard in front the beautiful new pergola. A huge weeping willow sits just behind it and looks fantastic in your ceremony shots. The bride gets a picturesque entrance rounding the back on a brick walkway and entering through a smaller pergola on her way down the aisle.
Indoor ceremonies are held inside on the main dance floor and the room is then “flipped” while your guests enjoy cocktail hour in the main room and foyer.
reception
Wedding receptions run very smoothly here at the Farmhouse. You’ll have one of three amazing day-of coordinators, Laura, Katie, or Anna to guide you through the big day.
The space can host up to 200 guests and features a dedicated dining area with a good sized dance floor in the adjoining room. The head table and immediate family tables typically surround the dance floor.
Cocktail hours typically take place in the main room and surrounding rooms, with the main bar in the rear of the building.
Outside, just off the dance floor, is a large deck and outdoor bar which provides a way get some fresh air and a drink after hitting the dance floor.

The Farm house is located very conveniently just off 95 and Kirkwood highway. It is a quick drive to The Christiana mall and surrounding businesses.
The first floor of the property is wheelchair accessible although, as this is a 100 year old farmhouse, there is no elevator to the bridal suite on the 2nd floor.
