The front of the building offers shade and a nice backdrop most times of the year. It’s a great spot to shoot first looks and smaller group photos. We tend to photograph most of our family groups, bridal parties, and couples portraits around the back of the club where you will find an expansive patio and a pretty fountain (which is nice if you don’t want to venture off into the grass). Behind the patio there is a landscaped gazebo area with seasonal flowers, tall grass and the main clubhouse as a backdrop.

The pine grove just behind the putting green is one of our favorite places to shoot. It offers enough space for larger groups and provides good shade most of the day. The sun sets behind the grove and offers fantastic light for late afternoon and evening portraits.

The bridal suite at Deerfield is cozy and well lit. Window light is available from the wall to wall floor to ceiling windows (if you are comfortable keeping the shades open) but the fixtures in the room use daylight balanced bulbs so it’s easy to get natural looking photos either way. There are plenty comfy couches for everyone and a large wooden screen to divide the room up for changing.

Gentlemen are usually provided an area in the men’s locker room to get ready and have the run of the clubs bar area for pre wedding celebration.

Deerfield offers a few options for outdoor uncovered ceremonies. You may choose to have it on the lawn in front of the gazebo surrounded by tall grass and flowers, on the back patio under a large cherry tree (which has beautiful white flowers in the spring), and our favorite spot which is the pine grove. It offers a terrific atmosphere as the sun sets behind the grove.

Depending on the size of your wedding, there are a number of options for indoor ceremonies. The ballroom features wall to wall, floor to ceiling windows which provide a view of the grounds as the backdrop to your I do’s. Smaller weddings can also make use of the intimate event spaces adjacent to the ballroom.

If you are planning a larger wedding, the Grand Ballroom is expansive with floor to ceiling windows, beautiful chandeliers, and an impressively large dance floor. It can accommodate up to 350 guests for dinner and the event spaces outside the ballroom may be utilized for cocktail hour.

For more intimate weddings you may forgo the main ballroom and choose one or more of the event spaces to create the perfect sized space for your reception and cocktail hour.

Deerfield is located between Routes 273 and 896 with very easy access to I 95. It is right next door to White Clay Creek State Park and the University of Delaware. Because of this there are many hotel and salon options for you and your guests.

The club is wheelchair accessible with entrance ramps and is all one floor with no need for elevators or stairs.
